Weekly Review | Attempting To Find My Stride
I’m just going to jump right back into my weekly review as if I haven’t been M.I.A. for weeks (oops).
A Look Into My Habits
This week, I felt strangely tired, in that lethargic sort of way. It didn’t hit me until Wednesday, though, and as soon as I realized what was up, I started hyper-analyzing my routine to see what was up.
In all honesty, I’ve been letting a lot of my habits slide, lately. Things like limiting soda and candy, meal planning, and tracking my sleep have sort of fallen by the wayside, and I think it’s all finally culminating into this weird fatigue that I just can’t shake.
I think the two main reasons for this misstep are my new part-time job and the change in seasons. This is only my third week on the job, but I’ve already used it as an excuse to eat out every other day, and stuff my face with super cheap candy and mini sodas. Also, my bosses are super nice, and leave tempting snacks and cupcakes in the break room, which are so hard to ignore. Who am I to say no to free cupcakes? 😅
The easiest way I can think of to combat this is to just bring my own snacks/lunches from home to make sure I have no excuse to buy anything or waste food. I’m usually pretty good at saying no to bad impulses if I know I have good food that I could be eating instead.
On the other hand, the change in seasons is a little harder to combat. It finally started getting colder here in Boston, and the days are already looking darker. Daylight Saving Time ends next week, and soon the days will be plunged into perpetual darkness (at least to me they will). This means I also have to be super aware of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) rearing its ugly head.
I think I’m going to try journaling and writing a little more. I’ve been using my bullet journal pretty consistently lately, and have thrown some journal entries in the mix whenever I felt I really needed it. I’ll just keep that up and see how it goes.
Welcome to the Season of DOMS
On the track front, things have been going well. I started my pre-season training 2 weeks ago, and have been sore ever since. My coach has basically been using the team’s pre-season as a guide for mine, only my workouts are always harder. I think I'm starting to get used to it (or at least I hope I am).
All in all, I’m excited to see how this year goes. I’m lifting heavier, workouts are harder, and I feel stronger, and I’m hoping that all amounts to PRs and great experiences on the track.
How was your week? Are you excited or sad to see Daylight Saving Time end? Comment and let me know, I’m always interested in hearing what other people think about it.
