The Halfway Point: A Past Due Review
Soooo, I have no idea where to start with this blog post. I’ve probably written and rewritten this in my head a million times over, but when I’ve pulled up my laptop to get all my thoughts down, I hit a wall.
It happens to everyone at some point, I’m sure. What I’m not sure of is the exact reason. Maybe I was burnt out from work. Maybe I got caught up with my constant traveling for track that I never felt settled enough to get my thoughts down. Maybe it was the perfectionist in me that just wasn’t happy with anything I produced in the past few months. It’s probably all of the above. Whatever the case, I’ve (hopefully) posted this, so it can’t be too bad now, can it?
Anyway, on to the point of this post. The year is about halfway over, and I figured I’d review my goals as a good segue back into posts on the rest of my outdoor season, which at the moment is still going on.
As a quick recap, I had three main goals: qualify for Rio, drink more water, and read more books.
Rio: I haven’t hit the standard in the 100m or in the 4x100 relay, yet, but I have until July 11th to get it done, so I’ll push as hard as I can until the end.
Hydration: I have been drinking more water, in my opinion. At least, I’ve been keeping track of it in my journal, so I’m at least more aware of what my intake is like from day to day and week to week. I know I could (and should) be doing better, though.
I actually think I've done really well while I've been in Ghana and South Africa. Besides soda, water is the default drink offered most places, so it's been easier to stay on track. When the only two choices are very good or very bad, it's easy to guilt-trip myself to sticking with very good.
Reading: I managed to get through a few books before I left for my trip. The titles escape me right now, but they're sitting on my desk at home, so I'll probably make a post with some short reviews when I get back.
Speaking of posts to come, now that I’m back in action, look out for updates about my current trip to Ghana, and my adventures at the CAA 20th African Senior Athletics Championships in Durban, South Africa!
